Herpes simplex, most commonly known as herpes, is a viral disease that causes several types of infections depending on where they are located. There is a case of oral herpes, the most common type, which is an infection of the mouth or the face. There is also a case of genital herpes which is the second most common type. There are several others too such as cerebral herpes, ocular herpes, herpetic whitlow, and neonatal herpes.
The case of herpes is common in USA and is unfortunately, not curable as of the moment. When you get infected, it stays on your body for life. Infections will occur from time to time and will most likely, go lesser and lesser after a span of time. In a longer case, you will become asymptomatic to the virus which means that you will no longer experience any outbreaks but will continue to be a carrier of the virus.
But here’s the good side to the story: it has been known through a series of tests that oregano oil can help prevent outbreaks and skin irritations such as blisters and inflammations. The presence of antimicrobial properties in oregano oil makes possible the reduction of inflammation on the skin. There are several types of inflammation such as shingles, chicken pox, cold sores and herpes.
Using oregano oil for herpes would be better in topical application than in oral form because taking up oregano oil might irritate some of our mucus membranes and cause pains and inflammation. Also, oregano oil has some side effects to the body like nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. Before deciding to use oregano oil for your herpes, make sure to check with your doctor first.
Oregano oil can soothe any inflammatory symptoms caused by the herpes virus. IT is recommended that instead of applying large amounts of oil each day, the dose should be divided into multiple doses per day. Three drops per two and a half hours is the standard dosage of oregano oil. But like I said, if you wish to customize this to your own ways, make sure to consult your doctor first.
During the initial application of oregano oil, you may feel a bit of burning pain on the area. But after a few minutes, this pain will subside along with the inflammation and the itching. Little tip: Before you take the first application, try and apply it on a patch of skin where no inflammation is found. This is to test if your skin has an allergic reaction to the oil. Wait for a day or two. If none appear, then continue with your dose.
Oregano oil should not be used as an alternative for the conventional medicine treatment. If symptoms persist, definitely consult your doctor about it. Remember that in the case of herpes, your skin is not the only part that is affected but your entire system. Anti-inflammatory medications along with other prescriptions will be recommended to remedy the other symptoms.
Also, you might want to exercise and diet a bit more. Drink plenty of fluids. By doing such, you can boost your immune system and lessen herpes outbreaks.
