During the months approaching winter or summer, it is natural to have the common cold. Common colds, also known simply as colds, are a respiratory disease caused by a virus called rhino virus. These viruses are transferred from one person to another by direct contact or air borne. The disease comes with several symptoms starting from the nose. You will start off with a cough, a runny nose, nasal congestion, and sore throat. Sometimes, these symptoms can come with headaches, fatigue, muscle pain and a noticeable loss of appetite.
An adult can have up to two to three colds a year while children can have up to 12 per year. Unfortunately, as of the moment, there are no known cures for the common cold but it’s symptoms, however, can be treated. Apparently, the common colds viruses have been around us for too long and the infection has been here long enough. Although there are a thousand researches being conducted, there are still no good theories as to how you can treat the common colds.
Common colds may lead to pneumonia which is an inflammatory condition of the lungs. This disease is chronic and may take a lot of investment and treatment to get it cured. Also, if you leave it untreated and ignored, pneumonia may cause death. So, before even getting to this point, it is best to treat the symptoms of common colds as early as you can and fast.
One of the best herbal remedies for the common colds’ symptoms is the oregano oil. Oregano oil is an essential oil derived from the leaves of a plant called Oregano. IT is commonly found in Eurasian and Mediterranean countries. In its early years, oregano oil was used for culinary purposes only like adding spices or flavors to different dishes. But as time passed, it has been renowned for its medical miracles.
Oregano oil contains antibacterial, antiviral, antimicrobial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antiparasitic properties. Because of these, oregano oil can boost our immune systems. By doing so, common cold viruses will have a hard time entering the body and if they do, they won’t stay there for long if you use oregano oil.
Although there are no scientific proofs or claims that back up the medical miracles of oregano oil, there are several witnesses and patients of a handful of diseases and were treated because of oregano oil.
There are several methods of using oregano oil for colds such as orally and topically. If you choose to use it orally, I recommend you consult a physician first. Oregano oil is a super strong oil that may cause some side effects such as nausea and vomiting. If your doctor gives you the go signal, add two to three drops of oregano oil in a glass of water. You may also add it with a glass of juice or any liquid you wish to mix it with. Drink the mixture twice or thrice a day, preferably after you wake up and before you go to sleep.
